The Name
Built in 1997 thanks to generous contributions from Terrance and Barbara McGlinn, McGlinn Hall earns the title of the largest women’s dorm on campus. Terrance, or "Terry" McGlinn was a "beloved member of the Notre Dame family, a wise and trusted adviser, and a generous benefactor," said President Jenkins. Terry earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from Notre Dame and an MBA from UPenn. Barbara, or "Bobbie", received an honorary degree from the University in 2004, which she was extremely proud of.
The Building
In the fall of 1997, the Angels of Knott Hall (now a male residence) moved into McGlinn and made it their new, air conditioned home. McGlinn now houses 272 of Notre Dame's finest students in quad, double, and single rooms. Our close-knit community is formed in our section culture, 24-lounge hangouts, and treats made in our McG kitchen!
The Location
As the best in the west (and the rest of the campus), McGlinn Hall joins Keough, O’Neill, Duncan, Ryan, Baumer and Welsh Family Halls on West Quad. We are just steps from South Dining Hall, McGlinn Fields, the Burke 9-hole golf course, and the bookstore. If you are looking for a break from classes, only a short walk away is Eddy Street for some food and shopping, or the lakes for a relaxing view!
The Traditions
McGlinn hall is rooted in traditions. As a resident, you can expect Tuesday hall councils, Sunday ice cream sundaes, and monthly events from some of our dorm commissioners. We take our Interhall Sports very seriously, lending our motto "McGlinn never forfeits". In the fall we host our formal dance, and have our SYR dance in the spring. Family members get to enjoy the dorm with a McGal/McGent weekend hosted every year! In January our signature event, Casino Night, invites students from all across campus to come for a night of gambling and fun where all proceeds go to support our dorm-sponsored charity: St. Adalbert Catholic School.
